ST. LOUIS – Looking to bounce back following its first conference loss of the year, Missouri Baptist women's lacrosse pitched a 15-0 shutout against Culver-Stockton College (CSC) to lock up the second seed in the upcoming KCAC conference tournament.
No. 8 Missouri Baptist (9-3, 6-1 KCAC) took some time getting the offense going and breaking down the Culver-Stockton (4-7, 3-4 KCAC) defense, but when they figured things out it was quickly off to the races. Freshman
MacKaylee Miller opened the scoring, then after a dry spell of nearly six minutes,
Kamryn Bell and
Jordan Haeusser would combine for the following six Spartan goals. Haeusser lead all scorers, securing a first half hat trick with seven seconds before intermission, and would get her fourth with the next goal after the break to set the pace offensively. Bell also scored a hat trick, her first of the season, and assisted on another.
Eight different Spartans found the back of the net off of 41 shots, with Haeusser and Bell's multiple tallies being met with pairs from Miller and junior
Chayleb Deves.
Ashley Avery,
Brianna Fischer,
Caroline Karr and
Lydia Cornett all rattled the cage as well in the sweeping victory of CSC.
The Mobap defense of
Rebekah Broughton,
Gianna D'Alto,
Loryn Dotson and
Natalie Patrick locked down the Wildcats and only let the visitors get off four shots in total.
Amelia Shaw was only required to make one save in net. Backup
Kevynn Knoettner also logged a save. The home side was also a perfect 7-of-7 for clears, won the turnover battle 20-12 and scrambled for 14 more ground ball pickups.
Missouri Baptist concludes the regular season with a Senior Day offering against William Penn. The Spartans play host to the Statesmen with another chance to build momentum heading into the postseason on Saturday, April 9th, with opening draw at Noon.
