SPARTANS STAY UNDEFEATED, SHUT OUT EVANGEL, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist University women's soccer team continued their winning ways on Tuesday evening, shutting out Evangel University on the road, 3-0. With the win, the Spartans remain undefeated at 3-0, the program's best start in the past 20 years.

Missouri Baptist dominated the time of possession in the first half and kept the Valor on their toes with a 12-3 shot advantage, 10 of which were on target. However, there wasn't a lack of scoring opportunities for the Spartans.

Despite the 0-0 deadlock at halftime, MBU kept firing away in the second half, and the goals eventually emerged. Senior forward Gianna Gore notched her second goal of the season in the 66th minute with an assist from Piper Brown from near midfield.

The Spartans' second goal stemmed from a Jamie Theusch free kick played short to Madi Dunahue on the near sideline. Dunahue delivered a perfect cross into the middle for Jordyn Besserman, who one-timed it right in front of Evangel keeper Chloe Hancock at the 78:16 mark.

It was a solid back half of the second period as the Spartans scored their third and final goal in the 84th minute. Yet another pass from midfield made its way over the Valor backline and right to Mara George, who squared up and went top shelf for her second goal of the year.

Missouri Baptist registered its second clean sheet of the season with Lindzey Morrison in goal. The Spartans held Evangel (1-2, 0-0 HEART) to just seven shots on the night.

MBU returns home for its next contest on Thursday, Sept. 1. as they host NCAA DIII Fontbonne University at 7 p.m.
