WOMEN’S SOCCER WINS FIRST AMC GAME OF 2022, DEFEATS STEPHENS, 3-0

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer (5-3-2, 1-0 AMC) won its American Midwest Conference (AMC) opener on Saturday afternoon in the form of a 3-0 road victory over Stephens College. The Spartans are hopeful that the AMC-opening win foreshadows what is to come over the course of the next seven matches.

MBU dominated the time of possession in the first half with 10 shots, seven of which were on goal. The Spartans pushed the gas in the 42nd minute when Gianna Gore and Madi Dunahue worked the ball to junior forward Mara George, who effortlessly scored her fourth goal of the year. In addition to a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, MBU shut out Stephens in the shot category.

The Spartans' maintained the one-goal advantage for the first 20 minutes of the second half when junior Jordyn Besserman delivered an insurance goal. Besserman currently leads the Spartans with five goals on the season.

MoBap didn't let up and left little room for any Stars' scoring opportunities. Stephens mustered just one shot on the day and was unable to put it on target. At the 76:55 mark, Hannibal-LaGrange transfer Vivian Worobec scored her first goal in a Spartan uniform with a second assist on the day for Madi Dunahue.

The Stars were outshot 15-1 on Saturday with goalkeeper Maria Kristensen having very little work in the Spartans' backhalf.

MBU will look for a 2-0 start to the AMC schedule as they travel up the street to play UHSP next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
