SOFTBALL FALLS IN DOUBLE HEADER AGAINST EVANGEL

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- Missouri Baptist University softball started off the month with a double header against Evangel University. After a string of losses the Spartans were looking to make their way back into the winning column.

GAME ONE
Missouri Baptist started the game off slow with Meghan Hager being the only batter to make it on base. Evangel on the other hand came out swinging, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the third, McKenna Joern replaced Shelby Sievers on the mound, trying to get the momentum going. While the Valor were unable to put up any more runs, the Spartans weren't able to break through their defense to bring in the runs they needed. In the top of the seventh, Madalyn Bone was able to score the sole run for the Spartans due to an error by center field. Game one, ended with the Valor on top, 4-1.

GAME TWO
The Spartans started out ahead this go around with a homerun by Molly McPheeters in the top of the second. Missouri Baptist put up another run in the third inning with Ellie Wessel scoring on an error by center. The Valor evened the score in the bottom of the third with back-to-back runs scored. The top of the sixth was where MBU made their comeback. With Erica Wright and Madalyn Bone in scoring position, McPheeters hit a single up the middle earning 2 RBIs. After Abagail Cafolla made it on base with a single, Wessel stepped up to the plate and hit a double to center. With Cafolla and McPheeters scoring, the Spartans pulled ahead, 6-4. MBU was unable to hold on to the lead due to a homerun from the Valor bringing in two runs. Evangel was able to come from behind to secure the win, 6-7.

The next action for the Spartans will be on spring break as the team heads down to Florida for the USSSA Space Coast Games starting on March 13.
