VIERA, Fla.- Missouri Baptist Softball traveled to Florida for spring break to take part in the USSSA Space Coast Games. They will be facing off against eight other teams throughout the duration of the trip.
GAME ONE
Day one MBU faced off against their first opponent, Indiana university South Bend. The Spartans started things off early in the first inning with runs scored by
Meghan Hager and
Madalyn Bone. The Spartans continued their scoring streak into the third inning with another run scored by Leigraf on a double by
Ellie Wessel. IUSB was finally able to earn their first few runs in the bottom of the third, bringing the score 6-3. With two more runs in the top of the fifth from Sievers and Bone, the score was brought to 10-3.
McKenna Joern came in during the bottom of the fifth to close out the inning. She went on the earn her first win of the season with a 0.72 ERA.
GAME TWO
For their second game of the series Missouri Baptist took on Dallas Christian College. The first two runs for the Spartans came in the bottom of the first from Sievers and
Natalie Archer. Leigraf was able to score in the bottom of the fourth bringing the score 3-0. With
Alexandria Cafolla on the mound, she earned another shutout on the season with a 1.62 ERA.
GAME THREE
Day two started off against Ave Maria University with
Shelby Sievers on the mound. Hager earned the first run of the game in inning one. The Gyrenes had runs of their own in the first, bringing the score 1-2. MBU pulled ahead in the top of the third with
Sheldon Underwood scoring on a wild pitch and Hager in on a single by Archer. To close out the game,
Erica Wright scored on a single by Sievers, bringing the game 4-2. Ave Maria was unable to make a comeback in bottom of the seventh, and the Spartans earned the win. With a 3.63 ERA on the day, Sievers added another W to her name.
GAME FOUR
To close out the first half of the trip, MBU went up against William Penn University. Cafolla was once again pitching for the Spartans. With two runs earned in the first from Hager and Sievers, the team took and early lead. Bone was able to score in the third with a triple from Sievers who then proceeded to make it home on a wild pitch. With Underwood scoring on an error by the catcher the Spartans brought the score 5-0. After one-two-three outs in the top of the seventh, the Spartans earned their fourth win of the week and Cafolla earned her second shutout of the week.
The Spartans ended the first half of the week with a 4-0 winning streak. Starting Thursday, MBU will take on four more teams
including (RV) Aquinas College.
