VIERA, Fla.- Missouri Baptist University softball faced off against four more teams on the last half of the Space Coast Games. Overall, the Spartans came away with a 6-2 record, only dropping games to Florida National University and (RV) Aquinas College.
GAME ONE
The Spartans faced off in a close game against Indiana Tech.
Alexandria Cafolla was once again on the mound for the Spartans and only allowed two hits the entire game. The Spartans first run came from
Molly McPheeters after
Madalyn Bone hit single to center field in the third. Indiana Tech was able to get a run of their own in the bottom of the third, but MBU was able to get the lead with a single by
Natalie Archer, bringing in
Shelby Sievers. The Spartans defeated the Warriors, 2-1.
GAME TWO
MBU had their first loss of the Space Coast Games when they took on (RV) Aquinas College. The Spartans put up quite a fight with Sievers leading the team from the mound. The first run of the game came in the bottom of the third from Sievers hitting it up the middle, allowing Bone to make it home. Â AQ was able to even things up in the fourth, but MBU pulled ahead in the sixth after Archer bunted in
Sheldon Underwood. The game was once again tied in the top of the seventh after a throwing error by Bone. In the bottom of the seventh, the Spartans had the chance to secure the win with
Jenna Achs on third after stealing both second and third. Achs was ultimately left on base, and the game went into the eighth inning where Aquinas was able to earn the 3-2, victory.
GAME THREE
On the last day of Spring Break, the Spartans first game was against Florida National University. MBU had the lead early in the second inning. Brake was on base after a single to left field and was brought in by a hit from McPheeters. MBU furthered their lead in the sixth after
Amber Cage, who pinch ran for Brake, scored on a single to center field by McPheeters. The Spartans were unable to hold onto the lead with FNU scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. With the opportunity to make a come back in the seventh, the Spartans did not get the runs necessary to earn the win. Missouri Baptist earned their second loss of the series, 3-2 against Florida National.

GAME FOUR
In their final game, Cafolla earned her third shutout of the week against Concordia. With Missouri Baptist's 16 hits to Concordia's four, the Spartans outplayed their opponents to a 7-0 victory. In the top of the third, both Archer and Bone were able to score on a double hit by
Allison Leigraf. In the fourth, Sievers singled to left field, bringing in McPheeters to bring the score 3-0. Leigraf had triple in the top of the fifth and proceeded to score on a ground ball by
Kolby Brake. In the same inning, McPheeters was able to score once again after a hit down the left field line by Bone. The Spartans were able to wrap things up nicely in the seventh after earning two more runs by Underwood and Bone.
The Spartans are back in the Missouri to begin conference play this week as they take on Central Methodist University on Tuesday, Mar. 21 at home.
