MCPHEETERS WALKS IT OFF, SPARTANS SWEEP COLUMBIA

ST. LOUIS- After a late start Missouri Baptist Softball earned the sweep against conference foe, Columbia College at home today (Mar. 29).

GAME ONE
In game one Shelby Sievers was the starting pitcher for the Spartans. In seven innings, Sievers only allowed two hits the whole game and earned her first shut out of the season. The graduate student had full support of the defense to earn the win over Columbia. The team was on top of things as they had zero errors on the game. In the first three innings the Cougars had three line drives that went into the waiting gloves of the Spartans. Six and half innings and 21 put outs later the game was tied 0-0. At the bottom of the seventh, Molly McPheeters stepped up to the plate. The junior became the hero of the game with a walk off homerun to end it. MBU closed out the first game with a 1-0 victory over CC.

GAME TWO
Alexandria Cafolla was on the mound this go around, looking to put another win to her name. Columbia started things off early with a home run in the first inning. After going back and forth in the next few innings the Spartans were able to pull ahead in the bottom of the sixth. Natalie Archer was able to make it on base with a single to the right side. Looking to get some speed on base, Sheldon Underwood came in to pinch run for Archer. After stealing second, Underwood was in scoring position and waiting for her time to make it home. That time came with a double hit by Kolby Brake bringing her in and tying the ball game. With a triple right over the third baseman's head by Meghan Hager, Brake was also able to make it in. After a well place sacrifice bunt by Ellie Wessel, Hager was able to score, bringing the game 3-1. During Columbia's last chance in the top of the seventh they were able to put up one more run but the Spartans ended things with a fly out to McPheeters in the left field. The Spartans secured their second victory of the double header with a 3-2 win against Columbia.

With the sweep over Columbia, Missouri Baptist is now 4-0 conference play. The Spartans will be looking to add a couple more wins to that record with a double header against Central Baptist College on Friday, March 31.
