WALNUT RIDGE, Ark.- Missouri Baptist Softball decided to move up their games against Williams Baptist University so the team traveled down to Arkansas early to take on the eagles for a conference match up.
GAME ONE
The first game started off slow for both teams with Williams Baptist being the only one to get any hits in the first four innings. The Spartans first hit came from
AnnaBeth Batson in the top of the fifth with a popup placed right out of reach of center field.
Amber Cage then came in to pinch run for Batson and then made it third on a single to right field by
Ellie Wessel. Cage scored the first run of the game after a wild pitch that the popped up and away from the catcher.
In the top of the seventh the Spartans had the opportunity to further the gap with three runners on base but they were unable to capitalize on it. The game ended with MBU able to put away WBU with three runners in a row thrown out at first.
Shelby Sievers was able to earn her second shutout on the season.
GAME TWO
The Spartans got things going a lot faster in the second game.
Meghan Hager started things off, making it on base via walk.
Madalyn Bone replaced her at first after reaching on a fielder's choice. Sievers was up next and hit a double right over the third baseman's head. Bone was able to make it all the way from first to home, scoring the first run of the game.
MBU wasn't giving the Eagles any chances. In the first four innings the batters were out one-two-three, the Spartans completely shutting down their scoring opportunities. In the fifth inning the Eagle's had their first runner to make it on base. She was quickly out as
Natalie Archer had a great throw to second to catch the runner stealing. The Spartans dialed it in to end the inning with the score still being 1-0.
In the top of the sixth Sievers got things going with another double to the left side, this time a grounder down the line. On a pop fly out to right by Archer, Sievers made her way to third on the throw.
Allison Leigraf proceeded to bunt and was thrown out at first but was able to earn the RBI with Sievers scoring. The game ended with the score 2-0 and
Alexandria Cafolla was able to earn the second shutout of the day.
Softball will be heading up the road to Conway, Ark. to take on Central Baptist College in their next set of conference games.
