HANNIBAL, Mo.- After the double header against Hannibal-LaGrange University was rained out on Saturday (April 15), the games were finally underway the following Monday (April 17). The Spartans were able to put down the Trojans in six innings in game one and went on to earn another shut out in game two. Â

GAME ONE
The Spartans were able to get things going in the top of the second, putting up three runs in the inning.
Molly McPheeters started the inning off on the first pitch of the inning with a trip to right field.
Natalie Archer followed up with a triple of her own to bring in McPheeters. The next run of the inning came on a sacrifice bunt by
Allison Leigraf. As Leigraf was thrown out at first, Archer was able to beat the throw back to home. Brake, who moved to third on the play, scored the final run in the inning after easily making it home on a wild pitch.
The Spartans were able to put up a couple more runs in the third. After
Madalyn Bone made it one base,
Shelby Sievers moved her around with a hit to the right field. With both runners in scoring position, McPheeters got another good hit in, to score both. Archer was able to make it on base once again, beating out the throw to first by the infield. McPheeters managed to steal third base and went on to home after the Trojans fumbled the throw down. The inning ended with the Spartans up 6-0.
The top of the fifth another run was put on the board for MBU by
Meghan Hager. Hager made it on base with a single up that went right over the pitcher. Hager proceeded to move into scoring position by stealing second base. The freshman found herself on third when the catcher let the pitch get by her. With the next pitch,
Ellie Wessel was able to earn a hit up the left side to bring in Hager.
MBU finished things off in the top of the sixth. Both Sievers and McPheeters were able to make it on base by winning the count. Archer was able to move the runners around and bring in Sievers with a single up the middle. With a double from Brake, both Archer and McPheeters made it home. On the Trojans attempt to throw Archer out at home, Brake was able to advance to third. With a ground ball from Hager that went just out of reach of the pitcher, Brake scored. The Spartans went into the bottom of the sixth 11-0 but the Trojans attempted to make their comeback by scoring three.
McKenna Joern then came in to replace Sievers on the mound to finish the inning and the game ended by run rule, 11-3.

GAME TWO
MBU was able to put up the first run of the game in the first inning this go around. After Sievers made it to first on a fielder's choice she was able to steal second and round it to third on an error by the short stop. McPheeters was able to bring in Sievers with a pop up that landed right in front of the left fielder.
The next runs for the Spartans didn't come until the fifth inning.
Abagail Cafolla stepped up to the plate and had a hard hit up the left side, brining in Leigraf. Ab. Cafolla was able to score on a hit up the middle by Sievers. The inning ended with the Spartans up 3-0.
In the top of the sixth, the Spartans earned two more runs to bring the score 5-0. McPheeters made it on base with a double to right center. Brake made her way up to bat after Archer grounded out to second. She was able to send the ball all the way over the center field fence, scoring two for MBU. With no more runs scored in the game,
Alexandria Cafolla was able to earn the shut out, 5-0.
Next, the Spartans will be making up their rescheduled UHSP game this Wednesday, April 19. The will be facing off against the Eutectics for a conference double header at home starting at 2 PM.
