Welch Finishes in Top Ten at The Battle of Big Creek

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The Missouri Baptist Women's Golf team competed in the Battle of Big Creek Tournament hosted by Williams Baptist University on Sunday and Monday, with the team finishing in fifth place.

Individually, Sophia Welch turned in her best performance of the young spring season, by shooting 22-over par for the two-day tournament, which was good for tenth place overall among 37 competitors. The Desloge, Mo. native was consistent in shooting an 82(+10) on the first day and an 84(+12) on day two.

Freshman Ryen Tindall finished in a tie for seventeenth place with a 171(+27). Graduate Student Carlie Van Patten turned in a 186, tied for twenty-fifth. The final competitor for MBU in the four-player field was freshman Chelsea Young who finished in 36th place with a 204(+60.)

Blue Mountain Christian University claimed the team title with a combined 629(+53) which was 18 shots better than runner-up, Columbia College. MBU finished at 727(+151) as a team. Four of the five team competing are from the American Midwest Conference with William Woods University and Williams Baptist University also finishing in front of the Spartans.

The next scheduled action for the women's golf team will be April 17, when they host the MBU Invitational at Spencer T. Olin Golf Club in Alton, Ill.
