Men's Lacrosse Puts Up a Fight Against No. 10 Benedictine

St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist Men's Lacrosse team (1-1, KCAC) dropped a tight 5-8 decision at home Thursday evening to No. 10 Benedictine College. The two teams traded on and off possession, but the Spartans fell to the Ravens 5-8. With the loss MBU drops 2-7 overall.

The Spartan attack was led by Tanner Wittemore with two goals, as well as Ryan hicks leading in shots taken and pumping out a goal of his own. The Ravens led in shots 50-16 but struggled in turnovers 27-23 in favor of MBU.

Flipping the switch from the last time the two teams met in the 2022 season (BC def. MBU, 20-3) the Spartans heavily pushed back to assert their dominance. Unfortunately, BC attacker/midfielder Paul Gordon and Mac Postel jr. put the Spartans in and early hole with a pair of goals in the first two minutes. Senior Tanner Whittemore converted on the game's deficit by scoring the Spartans first goal in the 11th minute putting them only one behind the Ravens. BC went on to score two more goals in the first period while Brock Pleis (Fr. Attack, Lake St. Louis, Mo.) placed another MBU goal at the 7:05 minute marker.

It was an even draw between the Spartans and the Ravens in the second quarter 1-1 with a goal scored by Whittemore (2nd goal of the game) once more with three minutes left.

Out of the gate Benedictine Fr. Joey Calabria scored the first of the 3rd putting Missouri Baptist three behind. Sr. Ryan hicks from Fulsom, Cali. Managed to put MBU up one more in the 12th minute resulting in final third quarter score of 6-4.

In a game of cat and mouse, it was the Ravens who staged the bigger run in the last quarter. Spartan scoring seized while BC put up two more leading the score 8-5.

Goalie Ashton Scott made 16 saves to the Raven's 3 in a full 60 min of playing time.

Missouri Baptist enters their last away game on Monday April to traveling to Columbia Mo. to stand off Columbia College. Kick off time is set for 6:00 PM.
