Spartans Pick Up Second Conference Win in a Row

ST. LOUIS - In a rescheduled contest against Hannibal-LaGrange the Spartans were able to grab control early and keep the Trojans at arms length as they went on to win 72-57 at home.

MBU came out onto the floor firing from the tipoff as Sophia Horton and Mina Guevara-Goss each drilled a pair of three pointers in the first quarter to help put the Spartans up 20-10 in the first 10 minutes.

Amar Mansour and T'Laizha Morris also had very productive first quarters as they both pulled down three rebounds along with three and two assists, respectively.

Throughout the second quarter the Spartans continued to grow their lead as they doubled their lead to 20 points prior to halftime.

With 40 points at the break, MBU had scoring coming from most of the team as Horton led the way with 12 points followed by Kayleigh Winch with eight of her own.

After halftime the Spartans came out a little flat defensively as they allowed the Trojans to keep up with them giving up 20 points while scoring 20 of their own.

At the midway point of the third quarter, MoBap took a 24 point lead which would end up being their largest lead of the contest.

The Spartans went into the final frame up 60-40 over HLGU, and they were able to hold on to the lead fending off a push from the Trojans and never letting them get their deficit to single digits.

Missouri Baptist had scoring come from all over the place as they shot over 40 percent from the field, made seven three pointers, and had 25 points off the bench in their 72-57 victory.

Winch finished as the leading scorer with 16 points followed by Horton and Guevara-Goss both with 12.

Mansour did a little bit of everything again as she posted nine assists, seven rebounds, four steals, and five points.

On Thursday the Spartans will hit the road to take on Williams Baptist at 5:30 pm.
