Spartans Drop Game One of Road Trip

WALNUT RIDGE, ARK. - On the road at Williams Baptist the Spartans got off to a sluggish start and were unable to fight their way back and fell by a score of 80-65.

MoBap was able to strike first, getting on the scoreboard at 2-0 after an offensive rebound and assist from Amar Mansour to Kayleigh Winch for an easy layup, but the Eagles responded by going on a 13-0 run in less than three minutes.

The rest of the first quarter was back and forth as the two went into the second quarter with WBU up 25-12.

The second frame was pretty evenly played as Williams Baptist was able to keep MBU at arms length extending their lead to 14 points at halftime.

At the break, Tyler Butler was leading the Spartans in scoring with six points in each of the quarters.

Mina Guevara-Goss trailed behind Butler in the scoring column with six points of her own, all coming in the second quarter.

WBU started the second half making a few layups as well as a triple to go up by 23, but the Spartans were not done yet as they went on a 17-2 run to cut their deficit to just eight points at 55-47.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter MBU had cut the Eagles' lead to just six, but Williams Baptist did not let them stick around for long as they got their lead back to double digits and never looked back.

Solid shooting and getting to the free throw line helped WBU defeat the Spartans by a score of 80-65 in the Spartans first game of their road trip to Arkansas.

Butler finished the game as the leading scorer for the Spartans with 19 points as she shot 64% from the field along with 11 rebounds for a double-double. Sophia Horton, Winch, and Guevara-Goss all had double digit points as well.

Amar Mansour finished one assist shy of a double-double with 14 rebounds and nine assists.

T'Laizha Morris also finished with 11 rebounds throughout the course of the game.

The Spartans will return to the court on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Central Baptist.
