Wood Scores Two, MBU Defeats Stephens

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Saturday morning (Oct. 12), Missouri Baptist University Women's Soccer dominated the field at Stephens College, beating the Stars 4-2. 

Freshman Kyla Munoz was the first player on the field to make a shot attempt, but it was saved. She followed up with another shot soon after.

Despite Missouri Baptist's efforts, Stephens was able to breakaway and slip in a goal. They scored with 31 minutes left in the first half. The Spartans used every one of those minutes to score two goals before the end of the period. 

MBU's leading goal-scorer, Gabbie Wood, put a point on the board first, and Skylar Hollingshead, MBU's second leading scorer, followed soon after with a goal of her own.

Missouri Baptist lead 2-1 going into the second half, but Stephens was not ready to give up. 

They tied the game early in the second period, but MBU eventually responded with a second goal from Wood, assisted by defender Madilynn Lombardo. 

The Spartans put the nail in the coffin when Lombardo scored the first goal of her career as a Missouri Baptist player, assisted by AnnaRose Eldred. 

The Stars could not climb back after Lombardo scored. In goal, Gabby Mattli made two saves on Stephens' five shot attempts throughout the match. 

On offense, the Spartans made 17 shots on goal, with five coming from Wood, three from Eldred, two from Hollingshead, Lombardo, and Leah Maxvill, and one from Munoz, Piper Brown, and Ellie Mollish. 

Undefeated in conference play, MBU returns home to face another AMC rival, Central Baptist College on Tuesday (Oct. 15).
