SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Gabi Jakubowska hit the 1,000 career kills milestone tonight as Missouri Baptist University volleyball defeated Mission University on the road in three sets. The Spartans improve to 5-0 in the American Midwest Conference and 16-11 overall in 2024.
Jakubowska, a junior from Katowice, Poland, entered the day with 992 kills in her career and sent
down nine kills on 18 attacks to hit 1,000 and lead the team to a sweep of the Patriots.

MBU jumped out an early 9-1 lead in set one after a service run of six from Julia Pereira at the line. The Patriots worked it to within 14-7 before Tiia Heikkinen served up an ace, followed two plays later by a kill from freshman Elina Arsov. Jakubowska ended the set later at 25-13 with her fifth kill of the frame.
Midway through the second set, Maiana Coelho found Jakubowska for kill number three to help her get the 1,000th of her career and push the team to a 17-10 advantage. In total, the Spartans hit .464 in the second set with 13 kills on 28 attempts and no errors to extend the lead to 2-0 with a 25-17 win.
The Patriots started the third set with two kills by Ella Sims, one from Summer Kenney, and a service ace from Abbi Street to jump ahead 5-2. MBU trimmed the lead to 6-5 and then rattled off points on 10 of the next 11 plays. Now ahead 16-8, Coelho recorded an ace followed by a kill from Milica Radicevic to put the Spartans up 18-8. They ended the set with a .429 hitting percentage and a 25-16 win to earn the sweep.
