ST. LOUIS — Today (Oct. 23), the Missouri Baptist University women's soccer team will honor their seniors in a game against AMC match up Harris-Stowe State University.
Seven Spartans will be celebrating their senior day this afternoon. They are Skylar Hollingshead, Abby Layton, Madilynn Lombardo, Gabby Mattli, Leah Maxvill, Kaylee Simpson, and Vivian Worobec.
On and off the field, they have greatly contributed to the program's success overall. The seniors are admired by their teammates and highly valued by their coaching staff
Head Coach Deno Merrick had this to say about his seniors,
"Leah is a great young lady with a bright future and committed to the core. Skylar brought a directness to our game and team that was unpredictable and fantastic. Vivian is just a bright personality that we will miss having around, can't wait to see what she does. Madilynn is a fighter in every sense of the word and will be an excellent teacher. Kaylee has grown and persevered so much as a person with major life challenges, we are proud of you and he is even prouder. It would be hard to separate these two: Abby and Gabby. Abby is such a great and kind person, we will miss Abby and all she brought to us, bye Gail. Gabby is driven, strong and focus and it's just a testament of the person she is and will be."
They will be honored for their dedication to the program before the match starts around 4:00 p.m.
Then, the Spartans and Hornets will square off starting at 4:30.
MBU is walking into today's match having just played an excellent game, but ultimately lost 2-0 against 10th-ranked Columbia College.
History is in Missouri Baptist's favor in the game against Harris-Stowe, though. MBU has won six out of the 10 most recent match ups. Last year, Missouri Baptist fell to Harris-Stowe at their pitch, but this year the Spartans have the home field and senior day advantage.
HSSU has 56 goals on the season and holds a 13-5-1 record overall. The team holds a shot on goal percentage of .505. They are coming off a loss as well.
