MBU Takes Down Governor's State 3-0

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – Thursday afternoon (Oct. 3), the Missouri Baptist University women's soccer team defeated Governor's State University 3-0 in dominant fashion.

The Spartans drew first blood, with Gabbie Wood scoring at the 3:06 mark off an assist from defender Piper Brown.

Governor's State was able to get a shot off soon after, but goalkeeper Gabby Mattli shut down any Jaguar dreams of getting a point on the scoreboard. Throughout the match, the senior saved all 10 of GSU's shots on goal.

Mattli also assisted Skylar Hollingshead in getting her first goal of the season off an impressive boot from the Spartans' side of the field. With 23 minutes left in the match, Wood assisted Kacey Watson in getting her first goal of the season as well.

After scoring their third and final goal, the Spartans were able to maintain control of the game until the final buzzer sounded.
Altogether, the Spartans took 16 SOG. AnnaRose Eldred, Vivian Worobec, and freshman Clara Rincon contributed to three of those.

With another win in hand, MBU will face their first American Midwest Conference matchup, Williams Baptist University, on Saturday (Oct. 5) in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
