Forrest City, Iowa—Five Spartans placed at the Waldorf Open, hosted by Waldorf University this weekend in Forrest City, Iowa, and two made the finals at 160.
Josette Partney and
Anastasia Hardin took care of business in the 160-pound weight class, where they met in the finals. The nationally ranked #2 at 160 Partney went on a tear as she claimed three technical falls en route to the finals, where she outscored her opponents 39-7, and two matches were shutouts.
Hardin, nationally ranked #8 at 145, also had a day for herself at 160. Hardin claimed four victories on the day, three technical falls of her own, and a sub-35 second fall. Both wrestlers met in the finals, and they elected not to wrestle.
Finally debuting for the Spartans,
Erica Cobos, the 17th-ranked wrestler at 207, finished third at the weight. After she claimed a 23-second fall to capture her first collegiate win in the tournament's opening round, Cobos fell on criteria to Rewa Chababo of Wartburg 4-4. Cobos responded to adversity well, as she had quite the backside trek. Cobos pinned all four of her opponents in consolations, which included a revenge match against Chababo where the tables turned and dominated with a 39-second fall.
Other standout performances for the Spartans this weekend include
Abby Chandler, who placed fifth at 207 as she went 3-2 on the day, which included three falls and an appearance in the semifinals.
Emma Schreiber placed sixth, made it to the semifinals at 180, and picked up two falls on the day.
Cara Cheng picked up two wins by pin at 138, and
Makayla Murray claimed a win at 117.
The Spartans gear up to host McKendree University, the NWCA's number four-ranked team in the country, at home in the Carl and Delores Petty SRC on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The first match will start at 6 p.m.
