ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University men's basketball defeated the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy (UHSP), 82-73, to earn its third conference victory of the season.
With the win, the Spartans improved to 4-7 overall and 3-1 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play.
Ten different Spartans recorded at least two points in MBU's nine-point victory.
Thai Elder led the Spartans with 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. The senior guard also shot 7-of-10 from the free-throw line, grabbed four rebounds, dished out one assist, and recorded one block.
Evan Palmquist added 19 points on 6-of-18 shooting and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Palmquist also tallied five rebounds.
As a team, MBU shot 40.3% (25-of-62) from the field and converted 38.1% (8-of-21) of its three-point attempts.
UHSP shot 44.6% (25-of-56) from the floor but managed just 20.8% (5-of-24) from three-point range, which ultimately decided the nine-point difference between the two sides.
The Spartans carried a two-point lead into halftime (39-37), propelled by Palmquist's 10 first-half points. Following the break, MBU outscored the Eutectics 43-36 in the second half to secure the 82-73 victory.
MBU returns to action next Wednesday when it hosts Saint Ambrose University in the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
