Spartans’ Late Comeback Brings Home a Win

ST. LOUIS - Despite being behind by nine points early in the fourth quarter, MBU was able to mount a late push that secured a 77-74 victory on the road against UHSP.

A strong start put the Spartans up 6-0 early in the contest, but UHSP was able to outscore MBU 24-10 throughout the remainder of the quarter.

The Spartans started the second quarter with another great start as they went on a 9-0 run to grab a one point lead that eventually got up to three with just under seven minutes until halftime.

The Eutectics of UHSP finished the first half strong as they held an eight point lead going into the break.

Tyler Butler led the Spartans in scoring with 14 points and T'Laizha Morris had 10 points of her own in the first 20 minutes of play.

Amar Mansour and Butler each had five rebounds throughout the first half as the team had five more boards than UHSP.

The two conference foes went back and forth in the third quarter as they each scored 14 points in the frame.

Down by eight at the beginning of the final 10 minutes MBU started to chip away at the UHSP lead and had their deficit down to just two points with about five minutes left to play.

A pair of triples and free throws for UHSP extended their lead back to six points with three and a half minutes remaining.

Nyah Ford knocked down a huge three pointer for the Spartans to cut the six point deficit in half, and stellar defense led to layups for Mansour and Butler to give MBU a one point lead with a little over a minute in the game.

The Spartans forced a turnover on UHSP's final possession leading to free throws on the other end for Sophia Horton to increase the lead to three and give MBU a 77-74 win over the Eutectics.

Butler finished the contest with 22 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for another double-double on the season.

Morris, Horton, and Mansour also scored double digit points throughout the game with 14,12, and 11, respectively.

Mansour did a little bit of everything again as she tallied eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Missouri Baptist pulled down 20 more rebounds than UHSP leading to 25 second chance points in the 40 minutes of play, and they dominated the paint outsourcing the Eutectics 48-24 inside the lane.

The Spartans' next contest is Thursday at home when they host Harris-Stowe at 5:30 pm.
