Spartans Knock Off Eagles at Home

ST. LOUIS - At home against the Williams Baptist Eagles the Spartans were able to come away with a victory by a score of 83-75 with the help of two double-doubles.

 

In just the first three minutes of the contest Amar Mansour had already pulled down seven rebounds as the Spartans fell behind 4-0.

 

Throughout the rest of the first quarter MBU was able to keep up with WBU, but the Eagles held them at an arms' length as MoBap went into the second quarter down 19-15.

 

Early in the second frame the Spartans took the lead after Bryce Dowell knocked down a three pointer to make it 22-21, and a few minutes later she made another triple to give MBU an eight point lead.

 

Prior to the final buzzer of the half, Mansour made a layup to give the Spartans a two point lead at the break.

 

In the second quarter the Spartans shot 73 percent and 53 percent in the first half to help give them the small lead over the Eagles.

 

Dowell had 15 points at halftime and Mansour had seven along with eight rebounds and four assists.

 

The first five minutes of the half went the Spartans' way as they extended their lead to 13 points during their 16-5 run.

 

Missouri Baptist held on to their lead and went into the fourth quarter up by nine at 61-52 over Williams Baptist.

 

In the fourth quarter the Eagles went on a 12-4 run over the Spartans making it 68-69 with under five minutes left to play.

 

With just over three minutes left the Eagles tied the game at 74 apiece, and the MBU was able to finish the game with a 9-1 run to win 83-75.

 

Dowell's prolific shooting gave the Spartans a boost as she finished the game with 22 points.

 

Tyler Butler finished the contest with 21 points and 16 rebounds with 11 of them coming in the second half.

 

Mansour finished an assist shy of a triple-double as she had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

 

Dowel and Butler led the charge for the Spartans' points off the bench as they finished with 57 against WBU's 20.

 

The Spartans shot nearly 45 percent from the floor in the victory.

 

MBU's next contest is on Saturday against Central Baptist at 1:00 pm at the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC for Senior Day.
