Spartans Fall on Senior Day

ST. LOUIS - Missouri Baptist welcomed Central Baptist for their regular season finale and Senior Day and was unable to come out on top as they lost 70-62.

The start to the Senior Day game did not go as planned for the Spartans as they fell wind early 10-2, but they quickly made some of that back up as they went on a 7-2 run making it 12-9.

The Mustangs of Central Baptist were able to keep a slim lead over the Spartans as the two foes went into the second frame at 17-14.

Despite Missouri Baptist shooting 50 percent from the field in the first quarter they still trailed by three as CBC had gotten eight points off of the six MBU turnovers in the quarter.

With just under six minutes left in the half the Spartans trailed by four, but Bryce Dowell knocked down a triple and the Spartans got a stop on the other end leading to a Marija runic layup that gave MBU the lead.

Prior to halftime the Mustangs knocked down a trio of shots from beyond the arc to help give them a 33-27 lead at the break.

At the half the Spartans were still shooting well as they were at nearly 44 percent from the field, but they had committed 14 turnovers that CBC turned into 14 points on the other side.

Early in the third quarter MBU tied the game following a layup from Dowell, an and one from Amar Mansour, and a triple from Dowell on the first three possessions of the half.

Right after the Spartans tied the game at 35 apiece the Mustangs went on a 13-1 run putting MBU in a 12 point deficit.

Missouri Baptist was able to cut the Mustangs' lead to just five points twice before the fourth quarter, but CBC still had a seven point advantage going into the final 10 minutes.

With under two minutes remaining the contest the Spartans trailed by seven, but another and one layup from Mansour cut the score to 62-58.

CBC was able to keep MoBap at arms' length following the free throw from Mansour and went on to win 70-62 in the regular season's final game.

Mansour had eight points in the fourth quarter to help her get to the team high 14 points along with 10 rebounds for another double-double.

Nyah Ford did a bit of everything throughout the contest as she had nine points, five rebounds, and five assists.

The loss put the Spartans as the #5 seed in the AMC Tournament and they will take on UHSP on Friday at 7:30 pm.
