Melbourne, Fla.- The Spartans headed down to Florida for Spring Break where they were participating in the USSSA Space Coast Games for the second year in a row. MBU is off to a good start as they are four of four so far on the trip so far. Day one the Spartans faced off against IUSB and Clarke. Day two they were back up against IUSB then took on Columbia International.

Game One vs. Indiana University at South Bend
The Spartans found themselves evenly matched against their first foe. Both teams were struggling to make it on base with neither team putting a run up until the seventh inning. The Spartans went to work in the field, recording a total of 21 putouts throughout the game while
Brooklynn Fischer was able to strike out seven of their batters. Â
The game was going by fast with neither team on the board. MBU had their last chance in the bottom of the seventh if they didn't want to head into extra innings.
Abagail Cafolla opened up the Spartans at bat by hitting a soft ground ball that the third baseman threw into the dirt when attempting to make the play. Due to the error, Ab. Cafolla was able to make her way around to second base where
Sheldon Underwood would proceed to pinch run for the sophomore.
Miranda Ladson then stepped up and moved Underwood to third with a ground ball to the pitcher.
Natalie Archer would follow up with a ground ball that sneaked through to the left field to bring home Underwood. With that, the Spartans claimed victory over the Titans, clenching their first victory of Spring Break.

Game Two vs. Clarke University

The Spartans took the momentum from their first game and carried that into their matchup against the Pride. MBU started the game off by putting up two runs in the first inning. Fischer made it on base when she had a big hit out to center field and made her way to second. Ab. Cafolla then hit a line drive out to center field to bring in Fischer for the first run of the game. The sophomore then took advantage of the situation by making it to second on the throw. Ladson kept it going by hitting a line drive of her own out to center, bringing in Ab. Cafolla and making it to second on the throw as well.
Clarke then put up the next three runs, taking the lead with the score 3-2 going into the sixth. After going in for Fischer to pinch run, Underwood used her wheels to steal second, with an error committed on the play, Underwood sped on home to even the score.
The next inning would go by scoreless, sending the game into an eighth inning. Hager would start the inning on second base and would remain there until Ab. Cafolla would hit a line drive out to left field sending her home. Fischer, who was on just before with a walk would beat out the throw to put up another run for the Spartans. Ab. Cafolla herself would make it home when Archer would step up and hit a double out to left field. The Spartans would come out on top after Clarke would put up two runs of their own. MBU managed to shut them down before were able to put up any more runs with
Taylor Whitehead striking out the last batter.

Game Three vs. Indiana University at South Bend
On Tuesday (March 12) the Spartans were once again up against the Titans. It was a very different game from the first with MBU putting up 12 runs.
Meghan Hager scored the first run of the game when Ab. Cafolla hit a single to left field and
Allison Leigraf followed home right behind her.
Alexandria Cafolla then brought in Fischer when she hit a sacrifice fly out to right field. IUSB would answer right back with a run of their own, but MBU would hold the lead, adding a couple more runs from Fischer, Ab. Cafolla, and Underwood, until the bottom of the sixth when the Titans would tie it up 6-6.
To avoid going into extra innings for the second time that day, MBU had to go to work in the top of the seventh to gain back their lead. Both
Abby Wilson and
Kolby Brake made it on right at the start after watching four balls go by. Ladson hit a ground ball out to left field. The fielder committed an error allowing both Wilson and Brake to score and Ladson was able to make it around to third base. Hager then hit a ground ball to the short stop, bringing in Ladson. Things didn't stop there. A double coming from Fischer would bring in Hager and Leigraf who just made it on with a walk. Fischer would go on to score herself after another error was committed by the Titans when Ab. Cafolla hit a ground ball to their third baseman. The Spartans were then able to wrap up the game nicely as they sat down the first three batters in the bottom of the inning. They won their second matchup against IUSB, 12-6.

Game Four vs. Columbia International University
The Spartans had another high scoring game, putting up 12 more runs on the day. They had a slow start with the first inning going by scoreless and a lone run in the second. This run came by way of Archer making it home when Ladson hit a double out to left field. CIU would even things up in the third but in the fifth inning MBU really got things going.

Ladson was back at it, hitting a double out to left center to make it on. The sophomore was then able to score when Hager hit a groundball to first base. Wilson, who made it on just after Ladson was brought in by Fischer who hit a groundball to center field. Archer then brought in Leigraf when she watched four ball go by to make it on with a walk. Next up, Kayla Kindler stepped up to bat and hit a ground ball to the third baseman. The sophomore was able to make it on base due to the fielder's choice, but each Spartan was able to make it safely to their base, including Fischer who scored. The bases were loaded once again after the Rams were able to throw out the lead runner in another fielder's choice situation, but Ladson was able to follow up with a single to bring in Archer for their sixth run of the inning. MBU would go on to score another run in the sixth and four more in the seventh to end the day with another solid win. The Spartans beat Columbia International, 12-1, ending the first half of spring break with a 4-0 record.
