WILLIAMSBURG, KY. - On the road against (3) University of the Cumberlands, MBU was unable to come away with a victory in their first game of their spring break trip.

Early in the contest the Spartans gained an early lead as Mackaylee Miller and Caroline Karr each tallied a goal.

Cumberlands was able to get one goal back before the end of the quarter, but so did MBU as Kiersten Lang made it 3-1 before the second frame.

Amelia Shaw came up with four saves for Missouri Baptist to help hold Cumberlands powerful offense at bay.

Cumberlands came alive in the second quarter as they outscored the Spartans 6-3 to make it 7-6 at halftime.

Lydia Cornett, KJ Bonenberger, and Skyler Morrissey were the goalscorers for MoBap in the second.

Penalties aided the Spartans in the first half as they tallied four man up goals in the half.

Counting Cumberlands' final two goals in the first half they tacked on five more in the third to make it seven unanswered goals before Marissa Oldham got the Spartans back on the scoreboard to make it 12-7.

Following a few more goals from Cumberlands, Karr and Cornett got a pair of goals to make it 16-9 going into the final 15 minutes of play.

Karr opened up the fourth quarter with another goal, and she got another goal along with one from Cornett, but the Spartans were unable to get enough as Cumberlands came out with a win 18-13.

Karr led the Spartans in goals with four and Cornett trailed shortly behind with three of her own.
Â
Morrissey finished the contest with three assists and a goal of her own as well.

Shaw was able to rack up double digit saves throughout the game as she finished with 11.

The Spartans will be back in action on Thursday in Athens, Tenn. when they take on Tennessee Wesleyan at 11 am CST.
