OSKALOOSA, IOWA - The Spartans claimed an early lead and never looked back on their way to a 24-2 victory on the road against the Statesmen.

It did not take long for MBU to get on the scoreboard as Syler Morrissey tallied the first Spartans' goal of the afternoon under a minute into the game.

Caroline Karr and Jackie Oehler gave the Spartans a 3-0 lead following their goals less than four minutes apart from Morrissey's.

Karr was able to tally another goal to give MBU a 4-0 lead, and Lydia Cornett got one of her own with just over five minutes left in the opening frame to give the Spartans a five goal lead.

In the final five minutes of the first quarter the Spartans took off as they tallied five goals to make it 10-0. Three of the five goals came from Mackaylee Miller and the other two were scored by Kiersten Lang and KJ Bonenberger.

The Spartans won 19 of the 28 draw controls in the contest and Cornett hauled in eight of them.

The second quarter went a little slower for MoBap as the Spartans tallied three goals as Lang, Miller, and Marissa Oldham all got one.

William Penn was able to get their first goal of the contest in the second quarter as well as the two foes went into the halftime break with Missouri Baptist leading 13-1.

Following the break the Statesmen struck first to make it 13-2, but that would be all they could get as MBU tacked on 11 unanswered goals on the way to winning 24-2.

Cornett kept up her solid afternoon as she racked up four more goals in the second half, and Miller got three for herself.

Bonenberger, Karr, Morrissey, and Lang each also scored in the second half.

The Spartans dominated in all facets of the game as they outshot the Statesmen 46-5, went 9-9 on clears, and won the ground ball battle 23-7.

Cornett finished the contest as the leading point scorer with five goals and six assists, and Miller finished with seven goals and two assists.

Natalie Patrick, Karr, and Morrissey each racked up four ground balls apiece.

The Spartans next contest will take place Friday at noon when they take on KCAC opponent Midland on the road.
