MBU Takes Care of UHSP

ST. LOUIS - On the road in the regular season finale the Spartans gained an early lead and kept tacking on throughout the contest as they went on to win 21-2.

With hopes of going undefeated in KCAC play the Spartans got on the scoreboard first as Mackaylee Miller tallied the first goal of the day for MBU.

UHSP was able to answer with a goal of their own to make it 1-1, but MBU responded with four more goals in the first quarter coming from Lydia Cornett, Skyler Morrissey, Caroline Karr, and KJ Bonenberger.

Up 5-1 in the second quarter Karr scored twice and Kiersten Lang, Morrissey, and Bonenberger each scored in the first five minutes of the frame to make it 10-1.

Following those handful of scores for the Spartans, Karr and Cornett tacked on another pair before halftime to give MBU a 12-1 lead over the Eutectics at the break.

In the first half Amelia Shaw tallied three saves and the Spartans' defense held UHSP to just one goal.

It did not take the Spartans long to get going in the second half as Natalie Patrick netted a man up goal less than three minutes into the third quarter.

Lang and Morrissey both scored goals in the third quarter.

In the remainder of the quarter Cornett buried two man up goals and Miller also scored a man up goal.

The fourth quarter did not feature as much scoring, but Bonenberger and Karr each tallied another score.

UHSP was able to get one more goal in the fourth and the Spartans went on to win 21-2.

Karr led the Spartans with five goals, and Morrissey and Cornett each had four.

Shaw finished the game with only two goals allowed and five saves.

Cornett picked up six draw controls and four ground balls throughout the game and Patrick also had five draw controls.

The victory gave MBU an undefeated KCAC season and puts them as the one seed in the conference tournament that Spartan Field plays host to on Thursday with MBU playing at 10:00 am.
