Spartans Dominate at Home

ST. LOUIS - At Spartan Field taking on the Wildcats of Culver-Stockton the Spartans took control of the game early and never looked back as they went on to win 19-2.

It took the Spartans just two minutes to get on the scoreboard as Mackaylee Miller netted the first of many goals for the Spartans on the day.

Just over a minute later KJ Bonenberger made it 2-0 as she beat the Wildcats' goalie.

After receiving a pass from Lydia Cornett, Skyler Morrissey gave the Spartans a three goal lead, and just a few moments later Cornett found the back of the net to make it 4-0.

Following a penalty on the Spartans Caroline Karr extended the Spartan lead to five goals while being a man down.

Within the first five minutes of the second quarter Cornett, Morrissey, and Marissa Oldham all tacked on goals to make it 8-0.

Culver-Stockton was able to bury their first goal of the contest about midway through the second quarter as they cut the MBU lead to seven, but Cornett responded just 28 seconds later to make it 9-1.

Before halftime the Spartans kept going as Miller and Morrissey each got another goal each to give the Spartans an 11-1 lead over the Wildcats at the halftime break.

Off of a pass from Miller, Karr was able to extend the MBU lead to 11 goals following halftime, and Natalie Patrick scored a goal for the Spartans to make it 13-1.

In the second half of the third quarter Morrissey, Karr, and Miller tacked on three more goals to make the score 16-1 heading into the final 15 minutes of action.

The Wildcats struck first in the fourth quarter, but that would be all they got as MBU answered with goals from Morrissey, Karr, and Patrick to give them a 19-2 victory over Culver-Stockton.

The Spartans led the game in shots, clear percentage, ground balls, and draw controls to help them gain a 17 goal victory.

Morrissey led the Spartans with five goals on the afternoon, trailed by Karr with four and Miller and Cornett with three apiece.

Cornett hauled in 11 draw controls for MBU, and Patrick led the squad with four ground balls throughout the contest.

Amelia Shaw picked up three of the four saves for the Spartans and Kevynn Bouchard denied the other.

The Spartans will round out the week with a contest on Saturday afternoon when they host the University of Saint Mary in a KCAC matchup at Spartan Field.
