Spartans Take Care of Business

ST. LOUIS - On Senior Day the Spartans played host to the Spires of Saint Mary, and did what they needed to do as they went on to win 25-2.

MBU wasted no time following the Senior Day presentation that honored Caroline Karr, Mya Allison, and Natalie Patrick as they gained a 1-0 lead when Lydia Cornett buried her 47th goal of the year.

A few minutes later Marissa Oldham made it 2-0, and then Karr got one for herself and Oldham got another to give the Spartans a four goal lead.

After just five minutes the Spartans were up 4-0, but that did not stop them as Karr scored her second of the afternoon, and Skyler Morrissey and KJ Bonenberger tallied their firsts to make it 7-0.

Karr tacked on a pair of goals prior to the end of the first and Mackaylee Miller and Bonenberger each scored to make it 11-0.

In the second quarter MBU tallied six more goals as Patrick tallied a trio of goals and Boneberger, Karr, and Kiersten Lang got the others.

Following the halftime break the Spires struck first, but MBU quickly answered as Cornett beat the goalie for the second time on the day, and Karr scored her sixth and seventh of the contest.

Patrick, Karr, Lang, Morrissey, and Bonenberger got the team going in the fourth quarter to make it 25-1, but Saint Mary was able to score once more before the final buzzer and the Spartans went on to win 25-2.

The Spartans dominated the possession game as they won 26 of the 29 draws as Cornett hauled in 10 to lead the team.

Karr finished the game with eight goals and Cornett finished the game with eight points coming off six assists.

MBU found success attacking ground balls as they picked up nine more than the Spires.

The Spartans will look to continue their success this Wednesday when they welcome (10) Benedictine to St. Louis for a top 10 matchup at Spartan Field at 4:00 pm.
