No. 11 Missouri Baptist Drops Season Opener at No. 19 St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – No. 11 Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball fell 3-0 to No. 19 St. Thomas University on the road on Thursday evening. The Spartans lost their first season opener since the 2020-21 campaign with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 loss.

St. Thomas Recap
MBU dropped into an early 8-3 hole in set one but knotted things up at nine a few points later after two Bobcat errors and kills from Gabi Jakubowska and Kassie Lee. St. Thomas scored the next five points to jump to a 14-9 advantage and finished off the set by taking 11 of the next 17 points.

In set two, Elina Arsov's first collegiate kill put her team up 3-2 early, but Alexandra Bruno tallied five to push the Bobcats back out in front 11-5. Jakubowska registered six kills in the second set to try to keep the Spartans afloat, but the combination of Bruno and Maria Eduarda Ramos, in her STU debut, paved the way to a 25-17 win and a 2-0 advantage.

Ramos opened up the third set with a pair of kills, one of her five in the set and eight total in the contest, to keep the momentum headed toward a sweep. Down 17-10, Luiza Arsufi served up an ace, and Arsov followed soon after with a pair of kills, but it was not enough to spark a comeback. The Bobcats wrapped up a sweep and their first win over the Spartans since 2016 with a 25-17 third-set score.
