BALDWIN CITY, Kan. — Dominating across the whole field, the Missouri Baptist University women's soccer team won their first game of the season 2-0 against Baker University on Saturday (Aug. 24).
The Spartans and Wildcats went shot-for-shot in both periods, each team taking five in the first and eight in the second.
Having equal shooting opportunities, MBU had to play with extra effort, savvy, and teamwork mentality.
Making her collegiate debut, freshman goalkeeper Hannah Miller saved a shot from BU in the first 12 minutes of the match. Impressively, Miller went on to make five saves throughout the evening.
About a minute after BU's first shot attempt, sophomore Gabbie Wood received a pass to put the ball in the back of the net for MBU.
Despite receiving eight corner kick opportunities in the second period, Baker could not find a way to score against Miller and the Spartan defense. BU also struggled to hold back Missouri Baptist's powerful offense.
AMC First Team All-Conference returner Skylar Hollingshead, scored the final goal of the game off an assist.
MBU plays again in Marshall, Mo. on Wednesday (Aug. 28) against the 24th ranked Missouri Valley University where they hope to repeat the success they found this past weekend.
