ST. LOUIS — The Spartans return to the pitch this week with a home game Wednesday against No. 13-ranked Cumberland University at 1 p.m. at Spartan Field.
Missouri Baptist University is 4-3 on the season and is coming off a 5-2 win over Culver-Stockton College and a 2-0 loss to (RV) Trinity Christian College last week.
The Spartans are currently averaging 2.43 goals per game and have outscored their opponents 17-12 in 2024.
Junior Marko Dordevic continues to lead the team in goals this season with six. He also has two assists.
Sophomore Sergej Misic is second on the team in goals with four. He netted his fourth of the season in last week's victory over Culver-Stockton. He also has one assist.
Junior Matthew O'Reilly was named Man of the Match for his performance against the Wildcats last week. He scored his first goal of the year and also recorded an assist.
Sophomore Sean Stone saved 12 shots against the Trolls last Saturday. The Spartan goalkeeper has 33 saves on the season with a 1.67 GAA.
MBU is looking for its second victory over a ranked opponent this season. The first came against No. 15 Westcliff in a 4-1 win on Aug. 24th.
No. 13 Cumberland: The Spartans will face the Phoenix at Spartan Field on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed live, and live stats will be available. Cumberland is 7-1, coming off its first loss of the season last Friday, a 2-1 defeat to No. 2-ranked Dalton State College.
The Phoenix are averaging 4.88 goals per game and have netted 39 goals this season, while allowing just six.
Cumberland is loaded with offensive firepower, with 15 different players recording goals this season.
Robbie Lyons and Rune Petersen are tied for the team lead with six goals each, while Brima Kamara and Phillip Schmidtke are tied for second with five goals apiece.
George Irons is the goalkeeper for the Phoenix. He's recorded 18 saves this season with a 0.90 GAA.
