ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball opened conference play with a 3-0 sweep of Crowley's Ridge College on Wednesday afternoon.
Gabi Jakubowska dominated the Pioneers with 17 kills and three service aces to bring home a win on MBU Goes Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness night.

Luiza Arsufi opened the game with the ball in her hands at the service line and recorded an ace after an attack error to put MBU ahead.
Kirsten van der Vleuten recorded two kills followed by two more from Jakubowska to open an 8-4 lead. The two ended the set combined for 10 kills as the team hit .367 in a 25-15 set victory.
Set two was the closest contest between the teams. Paige Glenn tied the set at 11 for the Pioneers before consecutive kills from Jakubowska and a service ace from
Paige Glueck. A service error gave the serve back to the Spartans for Jakubowksa who cooked up three aces in a row.
Julia Pereira also tallied an ace later in the set on the way to five total for the team in a 25-18 win.
MBU started on a 14-2 run to start the third frame and hit .500 as a team on 28 attempts to earn a 25-15 win and a sweep of Crowley's Ridge.

Maiana Coelho led the team in assists (31), hitting percentage (1.000), digs (12), and blocks (2.0).
