ST. LOUIS – (RV) Missouri Baptist University swept Williams Baptist University 25-13, 25-11, 25-11 on Friday night. The Spartans improved 2-0 in the conference behind another impressive outing from
Gabi Jakubowska and
Maiana Coelho pacing the team in aces, blocks, and assists.
Recap
Maiana Coelho led the attack in the first set with five kills and a .833 attack percentage, finding the floor with multiple setter sneak attacks to go along with 12 assists.
Gabi Jakubowska also had five kills in the first set while
Kirsten van der Vleuten and
Kassie Lee assisted with three each to lead the way to a 25-13 victory.
Now up 1-0, the Spartans continued to apply pressure on the Eagles in the second frame with a 16-1 run including 13 straight serves from Coelho in which she tallied four aces. Six more kills from Jakubowska and a trio from
Riley Kortkamp had MBU on the way to a 25-11 set two win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
MBU went into set three hitting .458 for the match and wrapped up the sweep with 19 kills on 42 attempts in the final set. Jakubowska continued to power the Spartan attack with eight kills,
Elina Arsov had five, and Coelho had 11 assists. Missouri Baptist ended the contest 3-0 and earned their second conference win with a 25-11 final in the last frame.
