BELTON, Mo. - Over the weekend at Avila University, the Spartans competed in the Eagle Invite, and
Kassandra Foss placed first in the women's division with 954 total pins and a game-high 226 pins helping the Spartans get second place out of 12 teams.
Foss and
Amber Lymenstull led the charge for the Spartans in the tournament with 954 and 916 total pins, respectively. Lymenstull broke 200 pins twice in her five games, and Foss did once with 226. "The scoring environment was especially demanding this weekend. So, spares were of utmost importance. Both Kassandra and Amber controlled the pocket extremely well and kept filling frames," said Head Bowling Coach
Don Griffin.
Out of the 12-team field, Foss and Lymenstull were able to pace the Spartans into a second place finish. Ottawa University knocked down just over 100 more pins than Missouri Baptist on the weekend.
Griffin said, "The support of the team enabled them to have success, even when we weren't striking. We've been working hard all year to be prepared for our postseason, and it's rapidly approaching."
Foss's 190.8 pins per game average was enough to place first, individually, out of the 12-team tournament, and Lymentsull's 183.2 brought home fourth, individually.
On the men's side, the Spartans placed 10th out of 14 teams in the Invitational, and
Charlie Hunter led the Missouri Baptist squad with 970 pins in five games. His 194-pin average was enough to place 35th out of 141 bowlers.
The Missouri Baptist Men's teams knocked down a total of 4,328 pins in the tournament, just 14 pins behind Missouri Valley.
The next time the Spartans will be on the lanes is the weekend of Feb. 8, when they take on the McKendree University Baker Challenge.
