Spartans Catch Fire from Deep, Roll to 93-71 Win Over Mission

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University men's basketball secured a dominant 93-71 victory over Mission University on Thursday evening, powered by five Spartans in double figures and a scorching 52% shooting performance from beyond the arc.

With the win, MBU improved to 9-12 overall, 4-4 at home, and 6-5 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play.

Evan Palmquist, Austin Lewis, Courtland Soll, Preston Fortner and Breven McMullen led the charge, helping the Spartans snap a three-game losing streak with a convincing 22-point victory.

Palmquist paced MBU with a team-high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, adding two rebounds, two assists and one block. Lewis delivered a standout performance, finishing with a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double while knocking down four 3-pointers on six attempts and recording one block.

Soll contributed 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out three assists. Fortner was lights out from deep, hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc en route to 16 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. McMullen rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three, adding two rebounds, one assist and one block.

As a team, the Spartans shot an efficient 47.7% from the field and connected on 13 three-pointers to cruise past Mission. MBU controlled the game from start to finish, outscoring the Patriots 48-33 in the first half and 45-38 in the second.

MU struggled offensively, shooting just 37.1% from the field and 28.6% from three-point range. The Patriots also faltered at the free-throw line, converting just 52.4% of their attempts, while MBU capitalized by sinking 81.8% of its shots from the stripe.

MBU returns to action Saturday with a road matchup against No. 20 Central Baptist College. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
