ST. LOUIS – Keegan Ranney fueled a 5-0 blowout victory over (RV) Mount Mercy University on Saturday evening, posting two early goals and an assist before the 12-minute mark. The Spartans improve their overall record to 4-5-3 and 3-3-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
Ranney now sits in the team lead with 11 points this season, including four goals and three assists.
Matthew O'Reilly also had a big performance with a goal and an assist for three points.
Ranney scored in the sixth minute and the 10
th minute, followed by another from
Jake Champion at 11:14, assisted by Ranney.
Anel Tahirovic then found O'Reilly for a fourth goal at 18:35.
Goalkeeper
Evan Baisch backed the offense with five saves in the first half, including a string of three consecutive from the 35
th minute to the 37
th. He was tested four more times early in the second half, but slammed the door shut each time.
After Baisch's ninth save at 65:28, the offense went on the counterattack and extended the lead to 5-0 on
Anthony Coppotelli's fifth of the season, assisted by
Adel Smajlovic and
Jango Jibo.
Baisch made one final save at 79:40 and closed out his second career shutout with a 5-0 win to improve his record to 3-0-0.
MBU continues Heart play on Wednesday, Oct. 15, with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Spartan Field.
