ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team played its thirteenth game of the season against Baker University on Wednesday afternoon, falling 2-1. Adel Smajlovic scored the Spartans' lone goal following a quick transition down the field.
Both teams started off slowly, with play shifting back and forth across the field. Baker led in shots with 11 attempts, but Spartans goalkeeper Evan Baisch made four saves, while the remaining shots missed the target.
At the 20:34 mark, the Wildcats broke the deadlock with a header from Chafik El Idrissi. Just four minutes later, Smajlovic answered back for the Spartans, firing a long-range shot into the top right corner after a sharp midfield transition, assisted by Matthew O'Reilly and Anel Tahirovic.
Late in the second half, El Idrissi found the back of the net once again, scoring his second and the final goal of the match.
Both teams finished with an equal number of saves, recording five apiece.
The Spartans will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they take on Clarke University at 4 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
