ST. LOUIS — Missouri Baptist University women's soccer pulled off a thrilling 3-2 upset win on Saturday against Mount Mercy University, fueled by a dominant offensive effort and clutch goalkeeping down the stretch.
Natalie Gum led the Spartans' attack with two goals and an assist, sparking the offense early in the first half and leading to consistent pressure on the opposing defense. Her second goal in the 55th minute ultimately stood as the game-winner.
Goalkeeper Jordyn Maryas anchored the defense with several key saves in the final minutes, preserving the victory as MBU fended off a late surge from the Mustangs. She finished with eight saves.
The win marks one of the Spartans' biggest results of the season and extends their momentum heading deeper conference play. Missouri Baptist (4-7-2) will look to build on the performance when they face Baker University on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
