ST. LOUIS — Missouri Baptist University and Baker University battled to a 1-1 draw Wednesday afternoon, as the Spartans' defense held strong and Kacey Watson netted the team's lone goal.
Watson put Missouri Baptist on the board halfway in the first half, sniping the top right corner of the net to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Despite several chances to extend the advantage, MBU couldn't find a second goal before halftime.
Baker responded after the break, scoring the equalizer in the 78th minute on a shot from a distance that slipped past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Jordyn Maryas.
Maryas recorded ten saves, including a key stop late in the match to preserve the draw.
With the result, Missouri Baptist moves to 4-7-3 on the season. The Spartans will return to action Saturday when they face Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. Kickoff is set 5 p.m.
