DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Missouri Baptist University women's soccer team fell 0–1 to Clarke University on Saturday. Despite the loss, the Spartans gave a strong defensive performance, recording five saves compared to the Pride's three.
Jordyn Maryas played all 90 minutes of the match as well as defenders Kacey Watson, Piper Brockmeier, and Kyla Munoz.
The first half remained scoreless for both teams, though each managed to take a few shots on goal. MBU earned three corner kicks during the half, while Clarke did not record any.
In the second half, both teams began to find their rhythm, but momentum ultimately shifted away from the Spartans. Each side recorded five shots, earned two corner kicks, and made several saves.
Despite the evenly matched play, Clarke's Jayden Black broke the deadlock at the 53:13 mark, scoring her first goal of the season to give the Pride the lead.
The Spartans are set to take on William Penn University (Iowa) on Oct. 25 for Senior Day at Spartan Field, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
