OSKALOOSA, Iowa — Missouri Baptist University football fell 48–14 to No. 25-ranked William Penn University on Saturday afternoon at Statesmen Community Stadium.
The Spartans battled early but were undone by turnovers and explosive plays, as William Penn rolled up 451 yards of total offense behind a balanced attack that featured four rushing touchdowns and two passing scores.
Quarterback Jacob Jones led MBU (1–5, 0–2 Heart) with two rushing touchdowns, finishing with 71 yards on 12 carries and completing 21 of 35 passes for 186 yards. Gavin Claud paced the receivers with six catches for 56 yards, while Calvin Griffin added 50 total yards on 14 touches. Lionel Banks ran for 48 yards on 17 attempts.
Defensively, Evan DeWilde anchored the unit with seven tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception returned 12 yards. Kenner Bye contributed six tackles and a forced fumble, and Nick Stepney added three stops and a tackle for loss.
First Quarter
Missouri Baptist opened the game with a methodical 15-play, 63-yard drive that consumed more than seven minutes before a fumble ended the possession inside the William Penn 10. The defenses held throughout a scoreless first quarter.
Second Quarter
William Penn struck first when Marquis Harry intercepted a pass and returned it 86 yards for a touchdown with 9:48 left in the half.
The Spartans responded on their next series, driving 63 yards in 10 plays and capping the march with a 6-yard touchdown run from Jones to tie it at 7–7.
The Statesmen regained control minutes later on a 92-yard touchdown strike from Sterling Ramsey II to Amir Everett, then added a 39-yard scoring run by Destynd Loring to build a 21–7 halftime lead.
Third Quarter
Loring continued his dominant day with a 1-yard touchdown early in the third to extend the advantage to 28–7, and freshman Zachary Crump punched in a 1-yard score late in the quarter to make it 35–7.
Fourth Quarter
Jones led another steady Spartan drive to open the final period, finishing a 10-play, 59-yard series with a 2-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 35–14. However, William Penn answered immediately as Loring broke free for a 75-yard touchdown on the next possession. Ramsey added a 1-yard touchdown pass to Alexander Price with 6:36 remaining to close the scoring at 48–14.
