KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Baptist University freshman kicker Ian Zohner has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Zohner was perfect in Saturday's 9–7 road victory over Missouri Valley, connecting on all three field goal attempts to account for every point in MBU's first conference win of the season. The freshman from Farmington, Mo., drilled kicks from 25, 29, and a career-long 52 yards — the longest make of his young collegiate career and the second longest in program history.
"He's been really consistent," head coach Jason Burianek said. "The whole operation is great. Coach Jarren Hightower has done a tremendous job making sure that the line is blocking well. Coach Oscar Simon, our special teams kicking coach, has done a really good job. Having Coach Simon on staff this year has made a world of difference. Ian has done a great job and all of our kickers have done a great job all year."
Through seven games, Zohner remains perfect on the season, going 6-for-6 on field goals and 18-for-18 on PATs.
This marks Zohner's first career Heart weekly honor and the second weekly conference award earned by a Spartan this season, joining quarterback Jacob Jones, who was recognized in Week 1.
Missouri Baptist (2–5, 1–2 Heart) returns home Saturday to host Baker University at 1 p.m. at Spartan Field.
