Spartans Show Grit Despite Setback Against Missouri Valley

MARSHALL, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team fell to Missouri Valley College on Tuesday night, dropping the match 2–0. The Spartans struggled to find their rhythm offensively, managing just five total shots and failing to convert any into goals.

Despite a competitive first half that saw the teams head into halftime scoreless, the Spartans were unable to capitalize on their limited chances in front of goal. MBU managed just five total shots, with two on target, both saved by Missouri Valley goalkeeper Vicente Benitez Delgado.

Sophomore keeper Evan Baisch was a bright spot for the Spartans, recording six saves to keep MBU in the game. However, the Vikings broke through in the 60th minute when Bartomeu Trias scored the first goal of the match. Missouri Valley added a second goal in the 74th minute from Davor Marinkovic, sealing the 2–0 result.

Offensively, Matthew O'Reilly led Missouri Baptist with two shots, including one on goal, while Simon Olle and Keegan Ranney each contributed efforts toward the goal. The Spartans also held a slight edge in corner kicks (4–3), but couldn't translate set pieces into scoring opportunities.

MBU will be facing No. 2 Mid-America Nazarene University on Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. in Olathe, Kan., for their final regular season game of the 2025 season.
