LAMONI, IOWA — Missouri Baptist University men's soccer secured an impressive victory Saturday night, defeating Graceland 2-1.
The Spartans controlled possession early and set the tone on both ends of the field, maintaining pressure throughout the match. Their defensive line stayed organized, allowing few chances while building steady transitions into the attacking third.
MBU's offense came alive early in the first half when Anel Tahirovic opened the scoring with a precise strike from just outside the box. Graceland came back at 53:48 with a goal from Ryan Gourzong, tying the game. Though with nine minutes left of play, Adel Smajlovic capped off the scoring run with a penalty kick goal, sealing the Spartans' victory.
The win improves Missouri Baptist's record to 3-5-3 as the Spartans prepare for their next conference matchup against Mount Mercy on Oct. 11.
