KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Baptist University guard Javaris Moye has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the Spartans on both ends during a 2–0 stretch that pushed MBU to 7–0 and 3–0 in conference play.
"Moye is passionate on the defensive end and takes a lot of pride in that side of the ball," said head coach Taylor Jarvis. "Well earned and many more to come. He is one of the most instinctual defender I've coached."
Moye delivered one of the most impactful defensive weeks of the early Heart season, totaling 6 steals, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 assists across just 37 minutes, all while battling a foot/ankle injury that limited his minutes in both games.
The junior guard opened the week with a disruptive performance in the win over Culver-Stockton, finishing with 5 steals, 9 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist in only 17 minutes, repeatedly blowing up actions and pressuring passing lanes.
He followed with a significant two-way effort in MBU's statement victory over Grand View—handing the Vikings their first conference loss of the season. Moye posted 18 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal in 20 minutes, defending Grand View's top scorer throughout the afternoon and delivering multiple momentum-shifting plays.
This marks Moye's first Heart weekly honor and the first by a MBU men's basketball player this season and in program history, since MBU officially joined the conference in July.
MBU wrap up its four-game homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 25, hosting William Woods University at 7:30 p.m. inside the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC.
