ST. LOUIS — Missouri Baptist University men's basketball extended its undefeated run to 8–0 on Tuesday night, defeating William Woods University, 69–59, inside the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC to move to 4–0 in Heart of America play, complete a perfect four-game homestand, and snap a four-game losing streak in the series.
The Spartans opened the game with a dominant 16–0 run, setting the tone defensively and never trailing. MBU held the Owls to 31.6 percent shooting, finished +9 on the glass, and converted 25-of-36 at the free-throw line to secure its first win over WWU since January 2024.
Four Spartans scored in double figures, led by Drew Kegerreis, who delivered 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals — a season high in scoring. Isaiah Dixon added 14 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks, while Merquiche Lewis supplied 13 points and five boards. Javaris Moye contributed 11 points, going 7-of-8 at the free-throw line with two steals.
Austin Lewis anchored the defense with three blocks off the bench, while Preston Fortner added six points, six rebounds, and two assists while guiding the offense.
William Woods (3–6, 1–3 Heart) hit 10 three-pointers but struggled inside, finishing with just 14 paint points against MBU's 32.
First Half
The Spartans came out firing, using defensive pressure and transition scoring to race to a 16–0 start. Kegerreis buried two early threes, and Dixon powered inside for multiple baskets while controlling the defensive glass.
MBU led by as many as 16 in the opening period, holding the Owls without a field goal for more than four minutes. William Woods trimmed the margin late behind perimeter shooting, but the Spartans maintained a 34–28 advantage at the break behind 21 combined points from Kegerreis, Lewis, and Dixon.
Second Half
The Spartans reasserted control early in the second half, attacking the paint and continuing to generate stops. Moye scored seven after halftime — including a strong downhill finish through contact — while Kegerreis added timely baskets to preserve the lead.
Dixon's activity around the rim proved pivotal, grabbing key rebounds and adding two dunks on the night to ignite the crowd. Austin Lewis added three blocks, including back-to-back swats midway through the half that ignited the SRC crowd.
MBU held William Woods to just 31 percent shooting after halftime and sealed the game at the free-throw line, maintaining a two to three possession lead throughout the final eight minutes.
