DES MOINES, Iowa- Two Spartans placed in the top 4 at the Grand View Open, hosted by No. 2 Grand View University on Saturday.
Anastasia Hardin and
Andrea Karagiannis each appeared in the 3rd place bout, with a win from Hardin to take bronze.
Hardin started the day with a loss from No. 5 Krista Warren of Grandview in the Gold Division at 145 pounds. Hardin then went on to claim five consecutive victories; three were by way of the pin and included a ranked win over No. 15 McKenna Haltom of Baker University (Kan.). Hardin also out placed a wrestler from Missouri Valley College, who currently holds the No. 6 spot in the NAIA standings. The third-place match pits Hardin against a division one opponent from NCAA No.1, the University of Iowa, Ella Schmit. In a tough, back-and-forth match, Hardin matched all of Schmit's scores and added another of her own to take the 6-4 decision.
Karagiannis also had a day for herself, which aided her to a fourth-place finish in the silver division at 110 pounds. Like Hardin, Karagiannis also dropped her first match of the day. Karagiannis battled through four consolation rounds and picked up two falls and a technical fall en route to the third-place bout.Â
The Spartans enjoy the next weekend off and look ahead to the Jimmy May Open hosted by Baker University (Kan.) on February 15, 2025. Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m.
