Cornett's Six Assists Set Spartans Up for 20-4 Win Over Culver-Stockton

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University's women's lacrosse team faced the Cougars of Culver-Stockton College at Lou Fusz Athletic's indoor training facility today (February 20), where they prevailed over CSC 20-4.

Transfer student Olivia Julian kicked off the competition with a quick unassisted goal.

Soon after, Mack Miller scored the first of what would be seven goals on the day, and Lydia Cornett recorded her first assist of six.

Another talented transfer student, Madison Terrell, scored her second goal of the season to bring the score to 3-0. Just 20 seconds after, Culver-Stockton was able to put a point on the board.

Julian (assisted by Miller), Miller, and junior transfer student Alexis Taylor answered with three uninterrupted goals. This was not only Taylor's first goal as a Spartan, but her first of five throughout the competition.

After about a minute, CSC was able to sneak in another goal, making the score 6-2.

Then, sophomore defender Emily Goewert got the crowd on their feet. She cleared the ball from MBU's defensive end straight into CSC's critical scoring area, drawing a foul.

Goewert scored the first goal of her career off an eight-meter shot, creating an electric atmosphere for Spartan fans and her teammates.

Towards the end of the first quarter, Culver-Stockton received a couple of cards, giving Taylor the woman up opportunity to get one more point on the board before the buzzer sounded.

Just about a minute into the second period, Cornett fired one into the back of the net, bringing the score to 9-2.

After this goal, the teams held each other scoreless for about eight minutes until Miller finally scored another one. This was the momentum MBU needed to apply more pressure offensively.

Cornett assisted both Miller and Taylor in one more goal each before the end of the quarter. The third quarter followed this same formula. In this period, Miller and Taylor were the lone goal-scorers assisted by Cornett yet again.

More Spartans wanted in on the action during the fourth quarter. Miller kicked off the period with MBU's 15th goal of the day, making the score 15-3.

Senior Kiersten Lang put one on the board off an assist from sophomore Bella McMillan.

This was Lang's fourth goal of the season and McMillan's first assist. With help from Miller, Taylor scored about three minutes after Lang.

Miller recorded another a goal of her own before CSC scored their fourth and final of the game. Cornett responded promptly with one more goal, herself.

To close the competition, Skyler Morrissey scored her first goal of the season with 24 seconds on the clock. She was excitedly rushed by her teammates as the scoreboard read 20-4.

Defensively, Missouri Baptist was able to handle Culver-Stockton's offense with pressure and speed. They remained consistent throughout the competition.
