FULTON, Mo. – Missouri Baptist University men's basketball saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon, falling 78-55 to No. 1 seed William Woods University in the semifinals of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament.
The Spartans finished the season with a 13-17 overall record in head coach Taylor Jarvis' first year at the helm. MBU went 7-4 at home, 6-10 on the road, and 0-3 at neutral sites.
Entering the tournament as the No. 5 seed, MBU earned a first-round victory over No. 4 seed Hannibal-LaGrange University before facing the top-seeded Owls.
Courtland Soll led the Spartans offensively, scoring a team-high 19 points on 6-of-17 shooting, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. The senior guard also grabbed six rebounds, dished out two assists, and recorded one block and one steal.
As a team, MBU shot 40% from the field and 30.8% from beyond the arc while converting 78.9% of its free throws. The Spartans totaled 28 rebounds in the contest.
William Woods controlled the paint, outscoring MBU 44-24 inside while shooting 47.6% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range. The Owls were also perfect from the free-throw line, going 10-for-10.
WWU built a 46-29 lead by halftime and never looked back, maintaining its advantage en route to the 78-55 win to secure a spot in the AMC Championship.
