WALESKA, Ga. – On Monday (March 10), (7) Missouri Baptist University Women's Lacrosse lost their first game of the season to (3) Keiser University 27-15.
Keiser is quickly rising in the NAIA top ten poll, jumping from seven to three after upsetting Lawerence Tech University when they were ranked second in the country.
This powerhouse of a team scored three quick goals on MBU in the first ten minutes of the half.
Mack Miller broke KU's streak with an electric goal launched from the eight-meter arch, assisted by
Kiersten Lang.
The Seahawks scored two more goals before
Lydia Cornett put another on the board for the Spartans. Soon after,
Olivia Julian closed the gap, making the score 5-3.
Before the end of the period, Keiser put one more into the back of the net.
Two free position goals in at the beginning of the second quarter courtesy of
Alexis Taylor and
Delaney Pechnik put Missouri Baptist just one goal behind the Seahawks.
Keiser found momentum after MBU caught up, scoring eight unanswered goals. With about five minutes left in the second, Miller, assisted by Cornett, finally put a stop to the Seahawks.
A couple of minutes later, the duo gave the Seahawks déjà vu. Miller scored again off an assist from Cornett.
Cornett also scored a free position goal on KU, bringing the score to 14-8 with about three minutes left in the half.
At the end of the second period, Keiser scored two more goals within seconds of each other to solidify their lead going into the second half.
KU found the goal first in the third, making the score 17-8. Missouri Baptist stayed relentless, continuing to try to climb back into the game. Taylor, assisted by Cornett, and Cornett, assisted by Pechnik, scored two consecutive goals after Keiser's 17
th.
The Seahawks went on a four-goal run before Pechnik scored her second of the contest, assisted by Cornett. KU responded with one more at the end of the third period. Â
Keiser opened the fourth quarter with two goals. Then, Cornett scored her fourth goal of the day, followed by another from Julian.
KU scored what would be their last three goals of the contest, bringing the score to 27-14.
Cornett was awarded with one more free position attempt with nine seconds of the game left. She left it all on the field with a shot to the back of the net, making the final score 27-15.
Across both Missouri Baptist and Keiser, Cornett had the most points with nine, following  (KU) Milena Isturiz's eleven points.
